Stumbled upon this hole in the wall kind of place. I was crazy surprised. Food was really good. Would I go again ? 100% Yes I loved it. Note: do not expect the Denny’s or a McDonald’s. This is authentic and will make you think you’re overseas. Again I LOVED IT.
I used to go to the restaurant all the time and it has some of the best food you’ll ever find! I don’t live in Minneapolis anymore, but I want to show my support for this restaurant and the wider Somali-American community. They are amazing, hardworking people. This restaurant in particular is hands down one of the best finds! Get a sambusa or two. If you’re with a group, the sports plate is some fantastic takeaway!
Friendly staff! Gave us food recommendations and a sample of Vimto-great juice drink to try! Couldn't try their Sambusas as they made 300 for the day and sold out by 6pm! Incredible portions, one entree was enough food for 2 so the prices for these items are amazing. I anticipate coming back soon.
So here is the deal with Sambusa King :: it's pretty great but also kinda weird. The HOURS are mysterious, I think they are only takeout for lunch with a limited menu and then are open for dinner (maybe around 4pm) with a full menu. You can always get sambusas at lunch and there is brisk traffic in and out. There are no chairs at the tables though so it's not really a place to sit. Or maybe it is?? It's always packed at dinner but I've never eaten during that window. The food is generally pretty great. Sambusas have excellent flavor. At lunch they are microwaved heat ups. Still great. Goat and rice and chicken and rice are also both enormous and flavorful. More reports to come after additional visits!
The Sambusas were everything I wanted . Some of the best I have ever had. I also got the chicken Suqaar with rice and it was amazing. Really friendly and just a nice place to go.
Flavorful meal and very filling. I couldn't finish eating my $11 plate of chicken and rice so I have leftovers waiting for me in the fridge now! The sambusas were very spicy, I believe next time I'll try to order without the peppers so I can enjoy them so much more but they tasted good so I definitely see that potential there. We will return to try out more delicacies.
My good friends showed me a good time here and a transitional Somali dinner, absolutely amazing! Make sure to check out their supermarket too!! The samosa was probably the best I’ve ever had!
